CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

The reasons that our students give for attending VTI have remained relatively constant over the many years. Typically it is not only one reason, but a combination including a) relevant and industry ready curricula, b) modular programme design that facilitates studying while coping with busy life schedules, and c) courses are taught by knowledgable instructors with a wealth of related experiences. However, the biggest reason given by students is the fact that they can gain valuable and marketable skills within a relatively short period of time; allowing them to become gainfully employed while pursuing further studies. Our experience is that many students enroll firstly in the diploma programme, which upon completion provides an excellent opportunity to secure a job in the field, while, at the same time, continuing to further their studies in the advanced degree stages or certifications.

VTI, unlike the traditional colleges and universities is a career-focused institution that prepares its students to integrate into the job market as quickly as possible. The curricula are designed with a heavy weighting on developing practiced industry skills that are identified as success factors and required attributes of industry professionals. Importantly, we engage graduates, employers, and instructors in the design and maintenance of our programmes to ensure that they meet the needs of the industry while keeping pace with technological development.

VTI has trained hundreds of technical professionals who may be found across Jamaica plying their technical skills in every sector of industry. Graduates migrating to various other countries outside of Jamaica have found it relatively easy to secure positions in the field because of the skills acquired during their studies.
